Skin Care for Brides
The Beautiful Bride
The first step in realizing the best skin care regimen for your upcoming wedding is setting aside ample time to prepare! You cannot wait a week before the wedding and expect glowing, healthy skin. The true road to becoming a beautiful bride is plenty of preparation. No one really agrees on when the right time to start is, but you want to begin your new skin regimen 3 to 6 months before the wedding ceremony.
The Modern Bride’s Body
The modern bride has even more ability than the women before her to keep herself healthy. Unfortunately, many brides get swept up in the pre-wedding preparations and forget about the one task that should be at the top of that checklist: you! It’s a busy time, but if a bride wants to look her best and keep her skin healthy, she will have to get enough food and plenty of sleep. In fact, your skin is the best indicator that these two conditions aren’t getting met: skin tends to look dull and stressed when our diet isn’t proper or we aren’t getting enough sleep. Modern brides should consider getting more sleep at the top of the list, as lack of sleep leads to dull, lifeless skin that will be noticeable by anyone that comes into contact with you.
Dieting isn’t the only area that needs attention. Avoiding cigarettes, exposure to the sun, and excessive caffeine also lead to healthy, beautiful skin. In addition, drinking plenty of water helps keep your skin – along with the rest of your body –hydrated. Modern brides that wish to look their best should consider cutting back on these habits as well.
Products for the Modern Bride
The best defense systems to keeping skin looking healthy, other than modifying diet and sleeping habits, are lotions, moisturizers, face washes and creams. When skin is dry and dull looking, apply generous amounts of lotion.
The way we bathe ties in to our product decisions as well. Modern brides need to make sure to avoid taking very hot baths, as it strips away the essential moisturizing components from your skin, leaving it dry and dull. Use warm water instead of hot to wash away all the accumulated oils from the face. Moreover, avoid soap. Soap does nothing but make your skin look even drier and duller than ever – try a cleanser instead.
There’s a trend here with our products – they all have to do with moisturizing. Keep your skin looking fresh and moisturized by using a water-based moisturizing at least 3-4 times a day. For dry skin, you may want to increase this number, and for oily skin types, you may wish to decrease this.
What else should I avoid?
It’s very easy to get lost in a sea of treatments. Modern brides need to realize that it’s okay to turn to acne treatment, fine lines, pigmentation, bleaching, waxing, and facials – just make sure to do this well before the wedding date. With any professional treatment, it is wise to leave some cushion just in case the treatment does not go as expected.
What about women of color?
Asian and Latin brides need to be aware that their skin can range between dry and oily; adjust moisturizer usage as necessary. In addition, Asian brides should avoid strong glycolic acid products, which will create burns on the skin and darken it. This is also important in preparing the skin for makeup.
What else can I do?
If you find that the details of your home care plan for your skin are a bit lacking, you may wish to talk to a professional. There are trained estheticians out there that will be more than happy to sit down with you and consult you on what you need to do to improve the condition of your skin. Although the general view of spas and professionals brings up a visual of overpriced shops and botched skin, in reality estheticians provide quality service at a very good price. The price may seem high, but for modern brides, the expense is well worth the savings you’ll receive in the long run. These trained professionals can lead you to what you need, saving you a fortune and keeping you from purchasing items that will not deliver results.
Sexy skin leads to a sexy bride – you can have beautiful, glowing skin for your big day. All it takes is a little bit of planning, some changes in diet, exercise, and habits, and the right blend of products. Fortunately, all the changes that are necessary can be accomplished inexpensively.
